Real Housewives of Atlanta star, Cynthia Bailey, got married this week in a stunning grey dress (see right). It’s gorgeous but it doesn’t look like a wedding dress to me. I would have guessed she was going to an awards ceremony
This got me thinking, why does a wedding dress have to be white? The whole ‘purity’ thing is pretty old fashioned. So perhaps the trend that Queen Victoria made popular in 1840 continued because we are unlikely to wear white dresses any other day of our life, and that makes it so much more special. Or perhaps it’s because if I saw the gorgeous dress to the right, I wouldn’t necessarily know she was getting married, so perhaps it’s the ‘ME ME ME I’m getting married!’ aspect of it all. Who knows.
Anyway, if you chose not to wear white on your wedding day, I’d love to hear about it. In the meantime, here is some non-conforming, less traditional wedding attire for your perusal!
